Lee Henderson America's EY private leader, joins us now to explain why supporting Black and Hispanic businesses is so important.
-
3
Lee, how have these groups been impacted by the social justice landscape? - We asked entrepreneurs of Black and Hispanic.
-
4
What their challenges were? and how they're feeling coming out of the pandemic and coming out of that year of sort of some of the social injustices.
-
5
And what we found was actually someone it was some optimistic results, which showed that entrepreneurs of Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs, I should say, as you saw increased revenue.
-
6
Because there was a lot more attention placed on them, they saw a lot more collaboration with big businesses and so on.
-
7
What we've done since then we conducted another survey, and what we found was a few warning signs, there's a lot of anxiety that exists in this demographic of entrepreneurs right now.
-
8
Because the attention I would say, from these big companies, and from even consumers are waning just a bit. - Lee, how can communities support entrepreneurs of color?
-
9
Now it's kind of like threefolds I think, one is as consumers, we're consumers right? we've got to be a lot more intentional about where we spend our dollars.
-
10
Really think about are we spending in the right communities, and are we spending with Black and Hispanic businesses?
-
11
The other thing as investors, you've got to think about Investors are we differentially investing.
-
12
Do we have the right people at the table that really understand this patch of entrepreneurs, to make sure that we understand the challenges that they face, and we're able to differentially invest.
-
13
And I would say for big companies, big companies have a lot of spending power, so just thinking about your supply chain, and whether you're embedding Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs into your supply chain.
