Welcome to the latest edition of ESPN FC, I'm Kay Murray joined in the studio by Craig Burley⁽¹⁾. And we will start with the news that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Casemiro.
-
2
Here is what Carlo Ancelotti had to say today, about the Brazilian midfielder he said "he wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity."
-
3
"The club and I understand it, Casemiro with what he's done at this club, and with the person he is, we have to respect this desire he has."
-
4
Let's now welcome into the show, shall we Julien Laurens⁽²⁾, Shaka and Ali and start talking about this. Jules I'd like to start with you? because we hear there that Ancelotti has said that Casemiro, has said that he wants a new challenge.
-
5
But there's definitely a financial incentive here, isn't there? - Yes massively of course, I mean, Casemiro is 30 years old, this is a five-year deal four year plus a one-in option that can be triggered.
-
6
And obviously the wages are enormous for someone of his age with a contract like that. He was on €9 million Euros net a year at Real Madrid, without the bonuses, I believe it would be around the 14-15 million mark.
-
7
Now, are united which is a huge, rise, of course, and when Carlo said also today. I can't work out why he decided to leave the best club in Europe to go to one that is struggling in England.
-
8
He's right and I think the answer partly certainly is, of course financial. - Interesting visit to see. he wanted a new challenge because this is definitely a challenge at Manchester United right now.
-
9
Well one of the things is the length of the contract as well, is quite staggering because as good as he has been and last year he was up and down but was in a successful team.
-
10
He is already starting to lose that mobility to get around the field like he did when he was 25 or 26. that's all it's already more of a struggle from a little later to the tackles.
-
11
But more labored around the field that's normal. Is still a huge upgrade, of course, on anything they have, that goes without saying.
-
12
But, boy, he wants a new challenge and he's bloody well got one. I'm telling you what he's going to have them all on his shoulders and carrying him on his arms.
-
13
So he's got it, he's got what he wants and he's going to learn quickly, what this Manchester United squad's all about. I get it.
-
14
He wants a huge payday and a long contract before he retires, and guess who pops up, and delivers that for him? good old Manchester United, so I don't criticize him for it.
