2
Joining us today is head of school Dr Anna Moore, welcome Dr Moore, so what makes the Howard School unique?
-
3
The Howard School was founded in 1950, by an amazing woman named Marion Howard who wanted to create a space where children who learn differently could flourish.
-
4
She opened the school with three students, today we serve over 350 students in grades K-12⁽¹⁾.
-
5
Our students are surrounded by teams of expert teachers, psychologists, speech language pathologists, literacy experts, math specialists, and assistive technology experts.
-
6
It's like a dream team for learning, that team together creates a unique plan for each student on our campus.
-
7
So what is language-based learning disability? - Language-based learning disabilities are problems with age-appropriate reading, spelling, writing, difficulty using and understanding language.
-
8
Our students are bright and capable, it's just that a traditional school setting may not provide all the resources they need to flourish, the Howard School can do that.
-
10
Atlanta is a really exciting place to be right now, in conversations about education of young people who learn differently, and Howard has helped lead the charge.
-
11
We collaborate extensively with other K-12 schools in the area, and colleges and universities.
-
12
It allows us to keep current research and neuroscience at the forefront of everything we do, we serve families from over 70 different zip codes.
-
13
And I'd love to let folks know too, we have a rolling admission process, which means we can admit students whenever we have an opening, we have two new families joining us next month.
