As people enter New Year, they are often thinking about their health and maybe even shedding a few of those extra holiday pounds.
One food that might help you out is probably already in your pantry oatmeal. Gastroenterologist chain Ross spoke to insider about the grain.
Oats help people feel full decrease sugar spikes and decrease insulin. Those are the properties that make you feel full so you stop eating.
However, people often want to add sweets to their oatmeal to make it taste good, but that is not the best idea if you're trying to lose weight.
Ross went on, throwing a couple of blueberries on it is a great idea. Throwing sugar on it. Not a great idea.
But whether or not oatmeal helps you lose any weight. There is no denying that oats are good for your health.
Shaymin Sang a professor at North Carolina State A&T University told Time magazine, eating whole grain oats can prevent diabetes and lower cholesterol levels, which could prevent cardiovascular disease.
So adding a bowl of oats to your diet sounds like a healthy choice.
